Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore

Now everything makes sense! Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore is the story all Harry Potter Fans have been waiting to witness.

As mentioned in the title, this film takes us through a journey about the incredible and unpredictable backstory of Albus Dumbledore. The wizard we all know and love is revealed to have a darker past that has impacted the lives of all wizards and humans. As his past is revealed dangers arise.

Despite the title, Dumbledore is rarely in every scene. However, this brilliantly adds suspense and mystery throughout the execution of the plot. The main character still being Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) creates cohesiveness throughout this entire Fantastic Beasts franchise. Witch Eulalie Hicks (Jessica Williams) is a wonderful addition to the team, however, one thing I notice is how forced her personality comes across. This includes her accent. The costume design and music score is phenomenal. Both interestingly work together in different settings throughout. My favorite scenes are the ones with Jacob Kowalski (Dan Folger) who is the best comic relief for such a heavy story. Another character worth noting is the recasting of Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen). While originally played by Johnny Depp in the first two films, Mikkelsen does a wonderful job portraying the character while also making the character his own. There are many adrenaline rush moments where the audience is left at the edge of the seat, anxious to figure out what will happen next. It is very interesting how watching the film takes you through a whirlwind of feelings such as excited, sad, and angry.

The message of this film is to never forget who you are and where you come from. Dumbledore had to come to terms with his past in order to solve the predicament that he is in. Some scenes include violence that may be mature for younger audiences.

I give Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore 5 out 5 stars and recommend it for ages 12 to 18, plus adults. Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore comes out Friday, April 15, 2022 in theaters.
