Failure vs. Success: Argumentative Essay

The first thing that people think of when hearing the word failure is negative. However, when hearing the word success, they think positive. But what if the tables were turned? Where success is seen as negative and failure as positive. This way of thinking would literally transform everyone's entire way of life. And that is my argument, today in a society where success overshadows failure, we need to understand the power of failure and what it means to our success. So, first, we will uncover the real truths about failure and its relationship with success, then explore how success is more negative than we think, until finally concluding with what they both can do together to make magic.

Everyone has a fear of failure. It is said that our greatest fears can be linked back to failure. For example, people would rather die than speak in public. In other words, we would rather be in the casket than fail to say the eulogy. This fear of failure is dangerous and has to stop. There must be an understanding that success limits us to one victory and holds back endless failures that could help us succeed in millions of other victories. Failure is what makes the world. We hear all the time that ‘history should never repeat itself, this is because our past failures as a society have helped us innovate and evolve into what we are now. For instance, Martin Luther King Jr. led the Civil Rights movement and won a victory that would change the course of history. However, his success led to the overshadowing of many failures in the American system and society that we have failed to address. And unfortunately, change has come to haltWe have come to a halt. Success creates the illusion that we are finished, when the reality is, we’ve never even started.

Fear as a positive and success as a negative would transform our way of life. However, even this argument is flawed as a downfall to this would be the same issue that we have with failure, that we would fear success, rather than seeing its advantages. This is why a balance must be made for both success and failure to live in harmony. Where failure is inevitable which means so is a success. And if we fear failure, then we must fear success. And if failure is negative, well so is a success.
